Necromantic Nights

NECROMANTIC NIGHTS is my current Work in Progress.

“A pair of world-weary and cynical arch-mages find themselves unwilling allies with a trio of reluctant avatars, an off-kilter half-elf swashbuckler, and her very peculiar companion, to unknowingly save Creation from an Evil so great that even the gods themselves hide.”

It’s a novel of high magic, adventure, a bit of mystery, loads of action, and even romance.

Yes, even romance.

In writing this novel, I wanted to play with a few concepts. NECROMANTIC NIGHTS explores themes of power and responsibility, coercion and free choice in a High Fantasy setting. It was once famously said that “With great power comes great responsibility,” but is that true? If so, when does that responsibility become an obligation? Does it also permit the use of your great power to achieve your goals regardless of the consequences?

Sounds literary, doesn’t it?

It’ll be fine. Don’t worry. Trust me; it’s an enjoyable read, especially since I torment the characters a bit.

Our protagonists, Kairee and Julien, with all their “great power,” have no idea who is behind the disturbing gift sent to Kairee and who now seeks its return. The antagonist, conversely, has no clue as to who is blocking his plans. Additionally, the Avatars are called to service by the gods again, but the gods aren’t providing direction. They find themselves at loose ends. Our mystery man, Pelnar, and swashbuckling Mercy aren’t even aware that they are involved.

Things start coming together as secrets are uncovered, revealing greater evils. The stakes keep getting higher, forcing our heroes to fight to save creation and themselves.

Now, for the romantics out there, there are three love stories, and these relationships are the impetus behind many of the critical decisions the characters make. There is a possessive and jealous love, a new and deep infatuation, and a flirtatious attraction which grows into a more mature love built on mutual respect, affinity, and amity.

Necromancers, swashbucklers, magic, mystery, danger, and romance; what more could you want?
